75% biomedical waste in Chennai rots in open

Less than 15 tonnes, or 25%, of the estimated 60 tonnes of toxic biomedical waste generated every day in the city is sent for safe disposal by hospitals and labs. The remaining 75% is strewn in and around the city posing serious hazards to residents and animal life.
