174 stolen mobile phones seized in Tiruvallur

Apparently emulating the Chennai police’s style of functioning, Tiruvallur district superintendent of police P Aravindan has cracked down on mobile thefts reported this year in the district and has been successful in solving the cases. In 2019, the Tiruvallur police received at least 778 mobile missing complaints. Of these, police traced and retrieved about 174 cellphones from people who were using the devices. “While verifying the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number of the missing phones, it was found that at least 174 were in use after people had bought the devices from some secondhand shops. After being informed, many people returned their mobiles to the police stations concerned.”
