Thiruvalluvar statue in Thanjavur defiled

In the wake of a political furore over the BJP’s attempt to saffronise Thiruvalluvar, a statue of the saint-poet was desecrated at Pillayarpatti in Thanjavur district on Monday. The vandalism drew sharp protests from the DMK and allies who suspected the BJP’s hand behind it. The BJP sought to blame the DMK.
