Pipeline burst causes cave-in on Sardar Patel Rd

A section of Sardar Patel road near IIT-M caved in on Monday afternoon, leading to traffic snarls in the area for a while. A Metrowater official said the cave-in resulted after a water main was punctured by workers hired by cellular operator Vodafone to lay cables in the area. Water jetting out from the pipeline at high pressure eroded the soil beneath that section of the road.
