Chennai: Corruption alleged in ‘108’ services

Drivers and paramedics of ‘108’ ambulances get money from private hospitals in Chennai for taking patients, including road accident victims, whistleblowers have reported. Some of these hospitals pay the drivers a percentage of the total bill as commission after the patient is discharged, a complaint to GVK-Emergency Management and Research Institute (GVK-EMRI) that runs the ‘108’ service in Tamil Nadu.

Chennai: Sewage recycling to save 50mld water

With the addition of Metrowater's new tertiary treatment reverse osmosis (TTRO) plant in Kodungaiyur, industrial units at Manali, Ennore and Minjur in the city will soon get 50mld of treated sewage water. This will reduce the pressure on Chennai's drinking water sources - the Redhills reservoir and the Minjur desalination plant - which earlier used to supply the water to the industrial units. The plant is expected to be inaugurated by chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday.
