After 2005, Trichy city was on the brink of a major flood on Monday as multiple neighbourhoods in the western parts of the city went under sheets of water. While there was no trouble till Sunday night, as the city and suburbs did not record heavy rainfall in the past 48 hours, surplus rain in the catchment areas of rivers from neighbouring districts flowing through the city to merge with Cauvery marooned hundreds of houses and affected vehicular movement on multiple highways.
