SPB, master of melody, now a mouna ragam

S P Balasubrahmanyam, who breathed life into lyrics of more than 40,000 songs in 16 languages making millions of his listeners smile, sigh and sob, died in a Chennai hospital on Friday after a 51-day battle with Covid-related complications. He was 74. Doctors said the end came at 1.04 pm. He is survived by his wife Savithri, daughter Pallavi and son Charan.
