Chennai police identify 90 'route rowdies'

In a crackdown on college students unleashing violence in MTC buses and on roads, the city police have identified 90 'route rowdies', those elected 'leaders' of those travelling to college on a particular bus or train route and those normally resposible for unruly incidents. The trigger for the police action is Tuesday's incident where a group of machete-wielding students of Pachaiyappa's College chased and attacked another group from the same institution on Poonamallee High Road in Arumbakkam.
