Chennai gears up to face Cyclone Nivar

With memories of the damage caused by Cyclone ‘Vardah’ in the city and neighbouring districts still afresh, government departments in Chennai are readying contingency plans to face Cyclone ‘Nivar’, which is expected to make landfall on Wednesday. The Regional Meteorological Centre forecast wind speeds to be 100-110km an hour. Around 175 relief centres have been readied.
