Ganja peddlers leave streets to start life afresh

Until recently, twenty-year-old Kalaiselvan* was stopped by police every time he roamed the city streets late in the night. Everything new about him, say a new haircut or ear piercings, was seen with suspicion, given his history of peddling ganja through his teens. The scenario has, however, changed now, with police going out of their way to get Kalaiselvan a job as a construction worker earning not less than ₹8,000 a month.
