First phase of Tamil Nadu local body polls today

The first phase of elections to 14,662 posts in rural local bodies in nine districts will take place on Wednesday. Alliances have broken and there are many friends-turned-rivals in the fray. The election is perceived as a referendum on the four-month-old DMK government and the party is pitted against the opposition in most seats. Seeman’s Naam Tamilar Katchi comes next in fielding candidates in maximum number of seats.
