District collector K Rajamani sounded flood alert along the Bhavani river banks after the quantity of water that was released from the Pillur Dam was increased to 22,000cusecs (cubic feet per second) from 6,000cusecs on Tuesday around 8am, following the water level in the dam touched 97ft against its maximum storage capacity of 100ft. People have been advised not to bathe, swim or wash clothes in the river. Evacuation of people, who were living along the river banks, was put on hold after the quantity of water that was released from the dam was reduced to 14,000 cusecs later in the day.
