The Puducherry government on Thursday directed the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) to allot 700 beds and five private medical college hospitals 300 each to treat Covid-19 patients as the exclusive Covid-19 hospital — Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute (IGMC) — has run out of beds. Patients admitted to IGMC are being kept on wheelchairs, stretchers due to lack of beds.
