In a possible first major seizure of smuggled gold hidden in the sea in southern parts of Tamil Nadu, more than 14kg of gold biscuits wrapped in a piece of cloth were retrieved from the Gulf of Mannar in a joint operation by Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and officials of the directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) on Wednesday. The gold worth more than Rs 6 crore was found by divers around one nautical mile (1.85km) from the shore at a depth of 14.5 feet to 16.5 feet after a two-hour-long search.
