TN: HC for open prisons for transgenders

The Madurai bench of the Madras high court on Tuesday directed the authorities to revisit prison rules and make women and transgender prisoners eligible to be inmates of the open prisons in the state. The existing rules barring women prisoners in open prisons is discriminatory, the court observed.
