In what could be yet another standoff between the ruling AIADMK and Hindu outfits, the state government on Thursday announced that it would not permit Vinayaga Chathurthi procession in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. The government said it had decided not to allow installation of Vinayaka idols in public places and processions or immersion of the idols in water bodies to prevent the spread of the virus. Vinayaka Chaturthi is celebrated on August 22 in the state.
