1,240 died in Chennai railway division last year, 70% were crossing tracks

Last year, 2,577 people died on railway tracks in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, latest data from Southern Railway shows. Of this, about 50% of the deaths were recorded in Chennai division, where more than 11 lakh commuters travel on 570-odd suburban services every day.
